DRAWING and PAINTING for children

Grades/Ages: 7 yrs & up

Instructor: MIMI MASON

April 9-May 15

6 week session

Classes will include drawing with graphite and colored pencils, painting using water based paint, print making, hand built clay projects, metal, wire work, fiber and other mixed media materials.

The emphasis in this method is a classical study of drawing and painting allowing a student's independent imaginative spirit to soar. Advanced Students will be encouraged to build on their desired medium and work more independently with the teacher acting as more of a mentor and facilitator. New and intermediate students will watch demonstrations and have instruction with specific goals for learning the  basics of composition and design within each discipline. This class will foster a well rounded familiarity in the different disciplines offered. "Process learning" will be promoted in this class with the hope of students desiring to work freely and happily toward producing works of art they are proud of. Therefore, Mimi is more interested in each student trying and learning new skills and having fun with art experimentation than having a project that is mass produced and not individual in its creation. You will learn about Oklahoma, American, and world artists, past and present, who have worked in the various mediums we study.  Class size is limited to 8.

You are never too young to learn and create lifelike two-dimensional portraits. Think what fun it would be to draw or paint portraits of your friends and family. With step by step instruction on proportions of the head and structural facial features, students will surprise themselves at how they  will gradually be able to create an accurate two-dimensional likeness.
