"A long time ago I was a student of the Edmond Art Institute. You helped me through an extremely rough period of my life.  I am now an artist/web designer and I would like to express my deep appreciation for the art classes that you gave one troubled young man long ago.  Thank you!

SUSAN SCOTT

Drama Teacher & Director

Susan Scott has been directing, acting and conducting Drama Workshops for all ages for the past 21 years.  She has been with the Fine Arts Institute of Edmond since 1999, where her children's Theatre Magic, More Theatre Magic, Magical Journeys For Pre-schoolers and Advanced Acting drama classes are favorites.  Students are taught how an actor develops a character through voice and movement, analyzes the script, or creates an improvisation.  Students explore traditions and folktales of other cultures or historic events and develop scenes based on their research.  Susan sets many goals for her students which include experience concepts in theatre education, develop group problem-solving skills, gain focus and control over emotions, participate in vocal and memory exercises.

Susan is the Director of the FAI's Junior Theatre Company for grades 2 - 4.  Some of the past FAI productions include, The House At Pooh Corner, The Velveteen Rabbit, Jacky's Magical Beanstalk, Winnie The Pooh, The Tale of Peter Rabbit and The Brementown Musicians.  Susan also lends her multiple talents and creativity to the Spring production of the FAI's Annual Children's Play each year as the Costume Designer.

Susan values the role theatre can play in community partnerships.  Past accomplishments include directing musicals, children's theatre and strait plays for community theatre.  She offers drama workshops each year to 2nd and 4th graders in the Edmond Public Schools through an FAI partnership, Art In The Public Schools.  Her work encourages novice participation and greater awareness of theatre as an educational tool and a means of reaching isolated segments of the community.  Additionally, Susan has worked with students in alternative education and taught creative dramatics at many Summer arts camps.

Susan holds a B.A. in Theatre Performance from Penn State University.
